Library Storytime Theme: Green Things

Even though I am not a librarian yet, I am doing a storytime twice a month at a preschool. So, I thought I’d share my ideas with the library world! This was the theme for the first storytime I did. (I always do the same intro song and goodbye song.)

Intro song (Tune: Did You Ever See A Lassie?):
The more we read together
Together, together
The more we read together
The happier we’ll be
Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we read together
The happier we’ll be

Here is a similar version:

First book:
Where is the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox & Judy Horacek

Transition song:
Old MacDonald had a farm, EIEIO!
And on that farm he had some sheep, EIEIO!
With a baa-baa here,
And a baa-baa there
Here a baa, there a baa,
Everywhere a baa-baa
Old MacDonald had a farm, EIEIO!
(Continue with other animals if you like…)

Second book:
How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? by Jane Yolen & Mark Teague

Transition song (Tune: Hokey Pokey):
You put your claws in
You put your claws out
You put your claws in
And you scratch ’em all about
You do the Dino Pokey and you turn yourself around
That’s what it’s all about!
You put your teeth in
You put your teeth out
You put your teeth in
And you chomp ’em all about
You do the Dino Pokey and you turn yourself around
That’s what it’s all about!
You put your feet in
You put your feet out
You put your feet in
And you stomp ’em all about
You do the Dino Pokey and you turn yourself around
That’s what it’s all about!
You put your tail in
You put your tail out
You put your tail in
And you wiggle it all about
You do the Dino Pokey and you turn yourself around
That’s what it’s all about!

Third book:
Go Away, Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberley

Goodbye song (Tune: London Bridge is Falling Down):
Now it’s time to say goodbye,
Say goodbye, say goodbye,
Now it’s time to say goodbye,
I’ll see you next time.
