Movie Review: We Need to Talk About Kevin

I wanted to see this after Tilda Swinton was nominated for a Golden Globe… My friend did warn me that it was “good but disturbing”.

From Rotten Tomatoes: A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, Lynne Ramsay’s We Need to Talk About Kevin explores the factious relationship between a mother and her son. Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller). Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, We Need to Talk About Kevin explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva’s own culpability is measured against Kevin’s innate evilness.

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 76%
Ken Hanke rating: 2.5 stars

Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars. I had no idea it was about a school shooting so I thought that was pretty unique… There aren’t many movies with that plot. The film was weird but super engaging. The kid was so evil (and Ezra Miller played such a drastically different role from his The Perks of Being a Wallflower character) but his parents were really crappy as well.
